Review of NOD32 antivirus
I recently downloaded the NOD32 antivirus program. Actually it was the whole ESET Smart Security package, becasue I like to have all the security features I need in one program.
Download
First of I would like to say that the NOD32 download was both the quickest and easiest download and install experience I have ever had with computer security programs. Even the following update did not take long. I practically didn't have to do anything.
Installation
The installation of the NOD32 download was also very easy. The program is totally preconfigured for maximum security with minimum user intervention. All I did was checking the settings for periodic scans of my computer and changing it to a suitable time. As with any other security package the NOD32 updated itself with the latest threat definitions, which it does on a regular basis. You get a small notification, when this happens.
Interface
After the NOD32 download had completed the installation and updates were in place I proceeded to check out the features of the program. The first thing you always notice is the interface. Again I was pleasently surprised. The NOD32 Smart Security interface is both pleasing and intuitive, utilizing graphical features that give it a "smooth" feel. The layout is easy to overview with status and settings in a nice logical order.
Setup
As mentioned the NOD32 download is already setup to cover the needs of any average user. I would just like to mention that there are lots advanced options available to the more demanding users such as network filtering, custom firewall rules, customization of the realtime protection, antispam, etc.
Main features
Apart from all the normal features you would expect from a security program the NOD32 download also include:
- ThreatSense. As you know all known threats (viruses, etc.) are organized in a database and it was downloaded with the NOD32 download and updated regularly. However, what happens in the period between the emergence of a new virus and the actual development of a new signature for the database? This is where ThreatSense comes in. It is the latest and most advanced technology in this field an acts as an early warning system detecting possible threats.
- ThreatSence.Net. As a user you can chose to help increse the effectivenes of ThreatSense by allowing NOD32 Smart Security to submit possible new threats back to ESET. That way all users benefit from this until the technicians develop an actual signature
Conclusion
All in all the NOD32 download was a very pleasant experience from start to end. The program has already alerted me of one blocked intrusion attempt, warned about several unsafe websites I have tried to visit and the email spam filter does a very good job too. Therefor I can definately recommend the NOD32 Smart Security package.
